THE CARR-CLARE CASE
£l5OO DAMAGES AWARDED. (Per Press Association). GISBORNE, June 28. At the Supreme Court, in the case of Ivy Bell Carr versus Lionel Clare, a claim for £5OOO damages for assault, the jury,, after thre hours’ deliberation, returned a nine to three verdict for the plaintiff for £l5OO, and recommended that the money bo invested with the public trustee for the benefit of Mrs. Carr. Mr. Justice Salmond said that no order to that effect could be made. He entered judgment for £l5OO, with costs according to scale. Mr. Burnard, for the defendant, intimated that he intended moving for a new trial.
