GENERAL NEWS. (From Our Own Correspondent.) The Rangitikei County Council meets on Thursday, July 3. Dalgety and Co., Ltd., in conjunction with F. R. H. Brice and Co., will hold a laud sale at Dalgety’.s rooms, Wellington Road, Marton, oh Monday, July 7, at 11.30 a.m. T|i piece cf land consists of 430 acres, 3 roods, 17 perches situated at Ratana, in the Waipu Block. A meeting of the Management Committee of the Rangitikei Rugby. SubUnions will be held in Mr. Way’s offices on Tuesday, July 1 to consider several matters of importance to clubs, also approving of Senior Shield third round fixtures. The annual ball of the Marton District A. and P. Association will be held in the Marton Town Hull on Friday evening next. Arrangements have been made for first-class supper, to include all the latest daintiqs that it is possible to procure. The speciallyselected programme of dance music will be provided by the Marton Orchestra. Tickets are selling freely, and it is safe to predict that this annual popular functiqn will be as sucessful as those held in the past. The second round of the Senior Shield CompiM’ion in the Rangitikei Unions finished to-day, when Hunterville and Turakina meet at Hunterville. and Tokorangi and Marton at Halcombe. The three leading teams are Tokorangi, Rata and Hunterville. The following team will represent the Hunterville seniors against. Turakina: —Higgins, Illston, Beirett, Simpson, Stewart, Hare, Peake, Still, Bowick, Coleman. Garner, Henwood, McAlley, Ellery, R. Lourie.' Reserves. —D. Abel, McDonald. A large number of church members and friends entertained the Rev. C. V. and Mrs. Rooke at afternoon tea in the Hunterville Sunday School on Wednesday. Mr. P. R. Earle. Vicars’ Warden, in hafiding Mr. Rooke a wallet of notes, expressed regret at his and Mrs. Rooke *s departure, and wished them health and happiness in their new home. Rev. and Mrs. Rooke and family leave for Wellington on Monday. The “shop” held in Hunterville on Saturday last by the ladies from the surrounding country districts resulted in £l5 being added to St. John’s Vicarage Fund. Air. W. Winchester has resumed duty at the Bank of New Zealand at Hunterville. Mr. W. Brodie, who was relieving manager during Mr. Winchester’s absence, left on Monday for New Plymouth. Before leaving Mr. Brodie was entertained by a number of friends and presented with a memento of appreciation. Fixtures which were postponed last Saturday will be played to-day, as follows:—Carnarvon v. Pirates, at Carnarvon, 3 p.m.; Pakeha v. Rovers, at Feilding, at 3 p.m.; Marton a bye. Ladies.—Hinekoa v. Ohakea, at Alarton v. Carnarvon, atr Marton, 3 p.m.; High School, a bye. The following will represent Alarton at Halcombe to-day:—Death (2), Gibbons, McSweeney, Schultz, Ricfidalc, Colemap, Knox, McAlillan, Goebel, Cowdray, Groun, Fogleberg. Stevens, Wiki. Bus leaves at 2 p.m. -sharp. Following will represent Alarton in the match with Alarists (Wanganui) to-day at Alarton: — Sutcliffe* Wilkie, Atkinson, Gordon. Woodham, Kitney. Porter. Whale,' Ledinghain, Blamb Dommett. Walker, Porter, Sutcliffe, Murrow, Dickson and Irving. MARTON PLOUGHING AIATCH. Considerable interest is being aroused in connection with the ploughing match at Marton on Wednesday next. Re cord entries have been received including champions from Hastings, Halcombs, Palmerston and Alarton. A committee of local ladies have undertaken to provide luncheon. An excellent day of sport should result.
