THE WIMBLEDON TOURNEY LONDON, June 26. At the Wimbledon tennis tournament Brookes (Australia) beat Hunter (America) 3 —6, 6—3, 6 — 4, 5—7, 6—2; Kingscote boat Ritchie 6—4. 6—3, 6—4. Rutnam and Hadi beat Willard aud Bayley 6—3, 6—3, 6—4. Hunter began brilliantly, giving Brooke no chance. Taking the initiative in the second set Brookes got into his stride, and kept the American running continually. He played on to Hunter's backhand. There was a remarkable incident in the first game. Brookes hit a- post, the ball bouncing into Hunter’s court. The former refused, to take the point, but ultimately won the game. The American, Norn?, Williams, beat the Frenchman, Foret, 6 4, 4-6. 8-6, 6-4. The first dorbles marches were played on the centre court. The Americans Richards and Hunter defeating F. M. B. Fisher and J. Peacock, 3-6, 7-5, 6-4, 6-3. On the outer court, Okamoto and Hooihye beat L. Owen and W. Aitken 6-2, 6-2. . 6-2. The Britishers Gilbert and Kingscote defeated Roupell and Duminy 6-4, 6-3, 6-2.
