Mr Wm. Cron, of Opunake, wbc was selected to fill the position oi headmaster at the Bulls District High School, has now received wore of his selection as headmaster of th< Owaka (South Island) District High School. Mr Cron has not yet made a definite choice of schools.

A Nelson telegram announces thi death of Mrs. Trask, widow of the late Hon. Francis Trask, M.L.C., aged $4. During her husband’s long term Mayor of Nelson in the “ ninet’cs. ’* Mrs. Trask was a well-known Nelson hostess. Deceased was a woman <»f kindly disposition, ».nd althn had been in private life for many r years she still retained a warm place in the hearts of the people.

A Westport cablegram says: Mr. L. V. Carmine, secretary of the Buller Rugby Union for the past thirteen years, and one of the selectors of the All Black team, who is under order < f transfer to Wanganui in the f ilwav Service, jvas on Thursday the recipient of a wallet of notes from the staff, and later was entertained at a smoke concert by the White Star Club and presented with a suit case. Yesterday he was tendered a public farewell social and was made the recipient of handsome tokens of public esteem. Mr. Cirniinc is leaving for Wanganui on Mon day to take up the position of relieving officer in the railway service.

Another of Wanganui’s oldest residents in the person of Mrs. Jane Dal zicll (nee Hansen) died suddenly al her residence, Maria Place, on Thursday. The deceased, who had passec the allotted span by five years, lived with her parents (the late Mr. and Mrs. James King) on the No. 1 Line, where they were engaged in farming pursuits between the forties and seventies of the last century. The late Mrs. Dalziell was in the full possession of her mental and physical activities up to within a week ago, though for some time past she has suffered from heart trouble. Of kindly and cheerful disposition, she endeared herself to all who knew her, and her death will be regretted by her sorrowing relatives and friends.

Mr. A. C. Buist, who for the past 4 three years has been manager of Hify local branch of the New' Zealand Far- * mors’ Co-operative Distributing Company, Ltd., has been notified of his transfer to the head office of the com pany at Feilding. Mr. Buist’s manj friends, while pleased to hear of hif promotion, will sincerely regret his departure from Wanganui. Mr. Buist hat taken a prominent part in the activities of the tow r n He is an active member of the Old Boys’ Cricket Club (senior team)', the Caledonian Society, the committee of the Agricultural Association and the board of directors of ** the Y.M.C.A. He is Deputy-Commis-sioner of the Boy Scouts’ movement, chairman of the Wanganui district commiteo of the Presbyterian Y.M.B.C. Union, and secretary and physical in structor to St. Paul’s Men’s Institute Mr. Buist is also a member of St. Paul’s Kirk Session and leader of th< Young Men’s Bible Class. Mr. Buist will be greatly missed in Wanganui.
