VALEDICTORY

FAREWELL TO REV. AND MRS. FENWICK. (From Our Own Correspondent.) On Monday evening there was a large attendance of people at the Patriotic Hall, Ohakune, in order to bid farewell to the vicar of Ohakune and Mrs Fenwick. Rev. Fenwick has been transferred to Pahiatua, but the people of the district could not let him depart without showing their appreciation of his efforts and help while among them. Mr Mountfort presided and most of the denominations were represented. He said they were sorry to learn of the vicar’s transwer, and he was voicing the opinion of all. when he said Rev. Fenwick and Mrs Fenwick would be sadly missed. Since the -vicar’s arrival the church had progressed. All sections of sport would regret his removal. He took the opportunity of welcoming the Rev. H. Jones, of Raetihi, who was going to act as their minister until such time as the new vicar arrived.

Mr G. Goldfinch said he voiced the opinion of all when he said the Rev. Fenwick was one of the best ministers Ohakune had ever had. Mr W. S. Baird, on behalf of the congregation and many friends of Aev. and Mrs Fenwick, presented them with a well-filled purse. In making the presentation he felt he was exnressing the feelings of all whe n he said that Rev. Fenwick had done his work well. The church had steadily improved since his arrival and he wished them God speed and every success in their new sphere of religious work.

Rev. and Mrs Fenwick both replied and expressed regret at their departure and invited all friends to see them when settled in their new home at Pahiatua.

During the evening a number of songs and recitations were rendered and greatly appreciated by the large assemblage. A dainty supper was provided, and after full justice had been done the guests took the opportunity of saying good-bye. A dance was then indulged in and kept up till a late hour.
