RAETIHI NOTES.
CATTLE CUP. From Our Own Correspondent) At the last meeting of the Waimarino 'A.’J’IH. and I. Association, Mr J. Winks asked if the Cattle Cup had yet been decided. The secretary reported that he had interviewed one of the competitors, but had not received a satisfactory answer. Members were of the opinion that it was time the matter was cleared up, and a sub committee consisting of Messrs Harris, Beskett and the president were elected to go into the matter and report at next meeting. FAT CATTLE. A nice line of fat cattle, fattened in the Waimarino, were kjlled at Messrs Allan and Co’s farm at. Makaranui, the other dav. The weights were: 924, 808. 786, 612, and 797 pounds. Besides the cattle there were 22 prime wethers and four pigs hanging in the up-to-date slaughterhouse at the time your representative visited the farm. RAINFALL. The rainfall for the month of May totalled 5.74 inches. Rain fell on twenty-three days, the highest on one day being on the 31st w-hen 1.21 in. fell. The total was 2.54 in. less than the corresponding month last year. For the five months ended on May 31 a total of 31.51 in. fell, as compared with 34.8 in. for the same period last year. POSTAL FACILITIES. Through the instrumentality of the Raetihi Chamber of Commerce a postal (private) box has been erected at Mr. R. H. Crawley’s stables and letters posted in this box bearing an extra penny stamp will be conveyed by the motor bus drivers to the trains at Ohakune going north amt south. The box will be cleared at 8.30 pm. and 3.30 a.m. The thanks of tha community are due to Mr Crawley for allowing the box to be placed in the stable, and also to the proprietors of the Raetihi Motor Bus Company for carrying the letters free of charge. WAIMARINO HOSPITAL. At the time of writing there were eight patients in the above institution and all are reported to be progressing satisfactorily. The tender of Messrs Sanflford and Brown has been accepted for additions to the laundry and drying rooms. The local hospital committee recently received a cheque for £5O from Messrs Sollitt Bros., sawmillers, on Parapara Road, as a donation towards the institution. The handsome donation was received with thanks and the secretary was instructed to write to that effect.
