AGRICULTURAL COLLEGE

AUCKLAND PRESSES ITS CLAIMS. (Per Press Association.! AUCKLAND, June 10. An influential deputation, representing the University 'College and various local bodies interviewed Mr Massey and the Hon. Mr Parr, urging the needs of Auckland in respect of an agricultural college and improvement in status of the school of engineering. Mr Parr said his own opinion was that for many years Auckland’s specialty was in the direction of agriculture, and would strongly favour special facilities being given to the Auckland University to specialise in agricultural science. So far as the engineering school was concerned, Auckland was doing good work and he would not be adverse to a moderate expenditure upon it. The Premier said that had it not been for the war, there would have been by this time at least one agricultural college in the North Island. He was willing, as head of the Government, and Finance Minister, to do all he possibly could to assist. There should be at least one, if not two agricultural colleges in the North Island. He suggested that a small committee should go into the whole subject. Meanwhile he was only able to express the hope that something would be done he hoped, before long, to put some practical proposals before Parliament.
