THE RIMUTAKA MYSTERY
(F*f. Pres* Association.) CARTERTON June 7. At the inquest on the body of the man found on the Rimutaka incline on Monday last the body was identified by the police as that of Ernest E. Richmond, Regimental No. 21411 Wellington Regiment. His mother lives at Wolverhampton, and he has no relatives in the Dominion. Deceased was employed by the Telegraph Department at Taumarunui, and his manner was described as peculiar, going days without speaking. A pest mortem examination revealed three wounds behind one ear, one severing the main artery. Death was due to loss of blood and exposure. The weather al. the time of the fatality was the worst experienced for years.
The Coroner returned a verdict of death from injuries received by acci, dent or otherwise, and hemorrhage and exposure. There was no direct evidence to show how the three wounds behind the ear were received.
