HOCKEY
Some very fast and interesting games were played on Gonvillo Park on Saturday. Wesley met St. Andrew’s in the final for the first round, and after a very fair exhibition of the game, romped home easy winners. St. Andrew’s needed just a little touchingup in full team work, their individual play not always coming out best. Spurdie and Lawson scored for Wesley and Tizard for St. Andrew’s.
Phoenix met Hinemoa, and a fast and exciting game was witnessed by all present, both sides being out to win. The game was one of the best yet seen in local hockey, but was not without its casualties, several players being put out of action for the time being. Hinemoa were the victors by three goals to one. Mr. Simmonds suitably controlled the game. Tiki ladies were out for a run, too, and put in some good solid practice, so should hold their own when meeting outside clubs later in the season.
Next Saturday, Hinemoa meet Tiki, when another good game is expected, and Tech. Old Boys will again try conclusions with Wesley for honours in the second round.
