ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES
TIMARU SCHOOLBOY FATALLY INJURED. TIMARU, June 8. A schoolboy, six years old, was returning from school when he attempted to board a moving motor lorry, with the result that he fell under a wheel. His left leg was so badly smashed that it had to be amputated. Four hours later the lad died of shock through the injuries received. At the inquest to-day, a verdict of accidental death was returned, the coroner adding a rider calling the attention of parents and school teachers to the necessity of warning children against the extremely dangerous practice of boarding moving motor vehicles. AN INJURED JOCKEY. (Per Press Association.) DUNEDIN, June 8. Andrew Mackay, the jockey, who was injured at Wingatui yesterday, was reported to be showing slight improvement this afternoon.
