DOG PARADE

The invitation by the manager of His Majesty’s Theatre asking boys and girls under the age of 15 years to exhibit their canine pets, (the winners to be presented with a free pass, to be available for one month) resulted in a large number of dogs being exhibited.

The judge, Mr Hugh Muir, had not an enviable task in selecting the winners. The quality of the dogs presented could not altogether be considered verv good, although a number of the exhibits were fit to grace any show bench. The prize for best dog exhibited was won by Miss Plorence Dunstall’s Pomeranian “Lockwood Gladwyn Star,” a wellknown winner throughout New Zealand. The prize for biggest dog was Master Basil Horn’s English Setter. The other prizes won were:—Fattest dog, Pat Cornfoot’s Kerry Terrier: ugliest dog, Horace Smith’s bull dog: smallest dog, Margerie Marriot’s black Pomeranian; thinnest dog, Nina West’s Sydney silky Terrier; longest dog, Phyllis Robson’s black Retriever; best decorated dog, Roy Adamson’s black Pomeranian; performing dog, Margaret Sherman’s orange Pomeranian! worst dog, Ivan Rohloff’s German daschund. The well-known winning wire-haired Terrier, “Maidstone Mack,” recently purchased by the judge, Mr Hugh Muir, had followed him to the theatre. He was immediately pounced upon by a school boy, who procured some string from a nearby shop and brought the dog before the judge, who, recognising his own property, could not award a place among the winners. The boy, who was evidently disgusted at not receiving a prize, was heard to remark to a successful exhibitor, that he was satisfied that that “bloke"' judging didn’t know much about dogs!
