CABINET CHANGES

(Prr Press Association.' WELLINGTON, May 7. Sir Heaton Rhodes, Minister for Defence, etc., who has been ordered by his medical adviser to take a complete rest, leaves Wellington for the South Island to-night, and will be away for some weeks. Meantime his various portfolios have been allocated as follows: Forestry, Sir Francis Bell; Defence, Hon. W. Downie Stewart; War Pensions, State Fire, Government Life Insurance, Superannuation and Friendly Societies Departments, Hon. G. J. Anderson. An announcement was made some time ago that Sir Heaton Rhodes ana the Hon. D. H. Guthrie, Minister for Lands, will retire from political life at the close of the present Parliament, and in Reform circles the question of consequent Cabinet changes is being discussed. It is believed that the matter will be considered by the Prime Minister and his party at the opening of the coming session of Parliament.
