WANGANUI TRAINING NOTES.

YESTERDAY’S TRY-OUTS. (By “Early Bird.”) Weather conditions were very favourable yesterday morning Jfor local training operations, and there was a fair amount of fast work done. Number two track was in splendid order. Indeed, all the tracks, as well as the course proper show little effects of the heavy rains of the past week. Veil (W. Rayner) and Attractive (W. Easton) went half a mile, the first quarter taking 25 1-5 secs, and the four furlongs 51 1-5 secs. Veil was going the better at the finish. Orchid (H. K. Alexander) galloped half a mile, doing the last two furlongs in 25 secs., moving well within himself. Crucelle (D. Watts) went freely over a mile, the sectional times being: Two furlongs 25 4-5 secs., half mile 51 4-5 secs., six furlongs, 1 min. 19 3-5 secs., and the eight furlongs in 1 min. 46 4-5 secs. The last half mile occupied 55 secs., but the pace was on over the first bit. Crucelle carried about a stone more than her weight to-day. Hallownoon (Nixon) could have improved on the 1 min. 21 secs, taken to cover six furlongs. Amber Tips (Nixon) went round to gallop with a couple of others, but he took charge f his boy, and after doing a half mile in 53 secs., the San Fran gelding went on for another round. Alaric (D. Watts) and Civility (H. K. Alexander) were associated over half a mile, and the latter pleased most, finishing a bit in front. From almost a standing start they reached the first furlong in 14 1-5 secs., the quarter mile in 26 4-5 secs., and the four furlongs in 51 2-5 secs.
