MAKARANUI SPORTS AND PICNIC SAWMILLERS 1 DAY’S OUTING (From Our Own Correspondent). The weather on Saturday was not the best, and frequent showers fell. This, however, did not prevent-lhe organisers of the sawmillers’ picnic from going on with their arrangements, and as the afternoon cleared an enjoyable time was spent by aM who attended. On Tuesday evening a number of members of the Miro Lodge, Raetihi, assembled in order to say farewell to one of their members in the person of Mr. C. D. Lynch. Mr. Lynch has been local agent for Messrs. Freeman R. Jackson and Co’s., of Wanganui, and in consequence of Mr. S. Davis’ recent departure for the Empire Exhibition, has been called Wanganui. Bro. A. E. Urwin acted as spokesman and expressed tho opinion of the members that they were sorry at Bro- Lynch's departure, particularly as he had been such an energetic member. As minute secretary he had done excellent work. He iopod he would succeed in his new field of duties, and return eventually to Raetihi. On behalf of the members he hand Bro. Lynch a Loewe pipe as a menmento of the esteem in which he was held. A suitable reply was then made by Bro. Lynch. FAT STOCK. During the past week the fat buyers have again been active in this district, and large numbers have been sent forward to the works. The weather lately has been good, and stock have done well, aud most settle.es have succeeded in getting more fats away this year than in past seasons. _ PUBLIC WORKS. The Public Works Department recently imported a motor lorry for use in this county, and is now busily engaged conveying supplies to the different roads where work is in progress.
