GREETING!
FROM YORK TO PALMERSTON NORTH. Mr Geo. N. Bell, who achieved fame by his ride from York to London, brought with him to Palmerston North a letter of greeting from the Lord Mhyor of the historic city to the Mayor of Palmerston North. It reads as follows: To the Mayor of Palmerston North. New Zealand. The Lord Mayor of York, England, presents his compliments to the Mayor of Palmerston North, Now Zealand, and assures him that the citizens of this old city appreciate in no small degree the feat of horsemanship performed by your citizen, Mr Geo. N. Bell. We have endeavoured during his stay to treat him as the representative of your own district, and his stay here has left among the many ladies and gentlemen whom he has met at the various gatherings an excellent impression. He takes back wit him the good wishes of the York citizens, and through him on behalf of the inhabitants of York I extend to you the hand of fellowship. W. DOBBIE. Lord Mayor of York.
