HIGH COMMISSIONER’S CABLED REPORT. The Department of Agriculture has received the following cablegram, dated March 22, from the High Commissioner for New Zealand, London:— BUTTER. Market not improving, and demand is not reviving with the lower prices. (9d to 9]d per lb.); March 8, coloured and white 86s to 88s per cwt. to 9sd per lb). Shipments of New Zealand produce arrived this week per s.s. Port Victor, Rotorua, and Mamari. HEMP. Manila market opened steady, but with more inquiries values have improved. “J” grade March-May and April-June shipments sold from £3B to £3B 10s and values. Sales of New Zealand highpoints reported in April-June shipments at £36, but otherwise pieces unchanged. WOOL. Sales continue and offerings readily absorbed by Home and foreign buyers, with slight rise in prices all round. FRUIT. Demand continues and prices are considered good: —Newton Pippin apples, 15s 6d to 19s per case; Stayman’s Winesap, 12s to 155.; Spitzenberg, 14s 6d to 16s 6d. HONEY. Continental.demand is good, and all grades under 50s per cwt. have been cleared. Light grades brought lowest prices. Present quotations are:—New Zealand, 55s to 85s per cwt; Californian 55s to 70s per cwt.; Jamacan, 50s to 65s per cwt.; Cuban, 50s to 60s per cwt.; Hawaiian, 47s 6d to 60s per cwt.
