Mr. A. I. Fleet, postmaster at Waverley, has been promoted to the position of postmaster at Whakatane.
Mr. N. Phillips, manager for the Bristol Piano Co., Ltd., during the past four years, leaves Wellington by the Maheno on Friday for Sydney. After spending a few weeks in Australia, Mr. Phillips, accompanied by Mrs. Phillips, will proceed on a tour of England and the Continent.
Mr. C. D. Lynch, who has been in charge of Messrs Freeman R. Jackson and Co’s branch at Raetihi for the Past seven years, left thefre for Wanganui yesterday in order to take up a position with the same firm here. The Raetihi branch will be managed by Mr. J. J. Johnston during Mr. Lynch’s absence, which will bo for about eight months.
Rev. Evan R. Harries, Mrs. Harries and family left for Auckland yesterday afternoon. They were farewelled at the station by a large number of their old congregation at St. Paul’s and also by a representative gathering of the public. As the train moved out there was quite a touching scene, the pastor and his people being materially pained by the parting.
