ANOTHER AUSTRALIAN TRAGEDY
SYDNEY, March 24. Doris Brown, aged seventeen, was shot in the head and hand by Stanley Sheen, at a homestead at Mount Horeb, near Gundagai, where they were both employed. She is suffering serious injuries. Sheen afterwards committed suicide. When the girl entered her bedroom Sheen stepped from behind a door, seized her by the throat and fired three shots with a revolver, two taking effect. Sheen then decamped, and when the police arrived they forced thp door of an outhouse. His body was found with a b llet through the heart. No reason for tile tragedy is known. Sheen wase an Englishman and served with the New Zealand forces during ths v ar. LATER PARTICULARS Received March 24, 730 p.m. SYDNEY, March 24. Doris Brown’s condition is serious. Apparently she placed her arms about her head Mfhen Sheen pointed the revolver. The bullet passed through her hand into her head. Sheen had been drinking heavily. It is stated that he left a letter declaring that he was madly in love with Miss Brown, who would have nothing to do with him. He also left a will and his life insurance in her favour.. Before shooting himself Sheen threatened to shoot a young lady visitor to the station. He fired two shots through her bedroom door.
