ENGLISH MINERS’ DEMANDS. LONDON, March 23. At a meeting of coal owners and miners the latter asked the owners to increase their offers. The owners promised to consider the matter and the meeting adjourned till the twentythird. SHIPYARD DISPUTE. LONDON, March 23. The threatened lockout in the shipyards has been temporarily deferred, the employers agreeing to adjourn action to March 26, pending further efforts by the Workers’ Federation to persuade the Southampton strikers to resume. The employers have also offered arbitration by the Industrial Court failing mutual agreement at the port. (It was cabled on the 18th inst. that the Shipbuilding Employers’ Federation threatened a national lockout unless a speedy settlement is reached with the unofficial strike of engineers at Southampton, who are demanding an increase of 17/6 a to bring them into line with the London dock workers. The federation summoned full joint meetings at Carlisle for March 20.)
