PATEA NOTES

(From Our Own Correspondent.) The annual general meeting of the Patea Football Club was held in the Fire Brigade Station on Friday evening last Mr. McKehna presiding. There was only a fair muster. The balance-sheet showed that a slight loss had been made in the years’ working, but the outgoing committee had arranged with Mrs. Varnham to put on a performance in aid of the funds, by which means the debit balaiice would be wiped off and the incoming committee given a clean sheet to commence the season.” The chairman made a few remarks on the balance-sheet, and stated that no doubt the falling-off in the gala receipts was to a certain extent due to change over from the “McLeod” scheme to the north V. south, and another contributing factor was the weather, also towards the end of the season, when it was seen that Patea had a chance of winning, interest in the game was not so keen. A motion was to be brought up at the annual meeting of the Taranaki Rugby Union to revert to the "McLeod” System, and if the Union would agree to allow the clubs say 75 per cent, of the gate, he would strongly advise this elub to support the motion, but he did not agree with the Union collaring the lot. There would have to be a change in the working of this club. Last year the marking of the ground, etc., was left either to the secretary, chairman or Mr. Gunn, which was most unfair. Other members must take more interest in affairs and help. In conclusion, he hoped all members would get into training at once, and take their training seriously, so that their condition would enable them to see out tha games. The report and balance sheet were adopted. The following office-bearers were elected; Patron, Mr. G. Pearce; president, Mr. A. T. Christensen, vicepresidents, Messrs Findlayson, Rutherford, A. Pearce, Corrigan,

Deane, Dr. Simmions. Chairman, Mr. Morse. Secretary and treasurer, Mr. H. Taylor; auditor, Mr. W. J. Shield. Club captain, Mr. L. Hunt. Management committee, Messrs H. Palmer, D. Murphy, H. Smith, Frank Williams, R. Luxton and „Cliff Wills. Delegates to Taranaki Union, Messrs T. Sheaham and Morse. Dealing with the motion to revert to the “McLeod” scheme, Mr. Fred McKenna moved that the delegates be instructed to support the motion providing the Union agrees to take 25 per cent, of the “gate” and allow the balance to be equally divided between the clubs playing. The motion was seconded by Mr. J. Gunn and carried. A letter was received from the Egmont A and P. Association, to the effect that it was holding a 7 aside tournament in Hawera on 26th. inst. and asking the club to enter some teams. The matter was left in the hands of the committee to deal with.

It was resolved to got into touch with the Alton Club and see if they will join up with the Patea Club this season.

Mr. McKenna thanked those present for their attendance, and said that although he was leaving the club, he was still most anxious that the players should do their best, which could only be done by a careful attention to training. He washed ’he club every success. At the call of Mr. L. Hunt, those present rose and sang “For He’s a Jolly Good Fellow.” Mr. McKenna briefly thanked all and the meeting broke up.

The Patea and District Schools Associations sports were held on the Domain on Saturday last . The weather was perfect and a good days’ outing was enjoyed by all who attended.
