MARTON JOCKEY CLUB

ANNUAL MEETING. The annual meeting of the above club was held in the Coronation Hall. Marton, last night. Mr. R. E. Beckett presided over a good attendance of members. ANNUAL REPORT OF COMMITTEE. The chairman, Mr. R. E. Beckett, reported as follows: — Your committee have again the pleasure of presenting a highly satisfactory balance-sheet for the year ending March 31, 1923. There has not been much of a special nature to report upon other than the fact that during the year the accommodation house has been extended, and the work of making the new course is steadily progressing. In the meantime your committee is acquiring funds, and has now a sum of £2450 towards new buildings when the time for removal arrives. The statement of assets and liabilities show the latter to be nil, whilst the former are over £20,000. Mr. R. E. Beckett retires from the position of president, Messrs. D. G. Riddiford, S. Skcrman, K. W. Deighton, and F. R. 11. Brice as vice-presidents, and Mr. D. G. Riddiford as treasurer, and Messrs. J. 11. C. Broad, 11. J. Cameron, E. Openshaw, H. Me Mana way at» members of the committee, and being eligible, offer themselves for re-elec-tion.

It is with deep regret that you committee have to record the deaths of Messrs. W. C. Kensington, W. J. Phillips, R. Edwards, and J. Collis, all highly respected members of the club. In conclusion your committee desire to tender their most hearty thanks to all those holding honorary positions, who did so much to contribute to the success of the meetings.

H. Bill; clerk of scales, Mr. F. L. Y’oung; hon. assistant clerk of scales, Mr. J. H. C. Broad; hon. timekeeper, Mr. R. F. Wood; clerk of course, Mr. W. E. Gibbons.

Committee (four vacancies): Messrs E. Openshaw, J. H. Broad, H. McManaway, H. J. Cameron (all re-elected). The chairman expressed appreciation of Mr E. A. Campbell reaching his 80th birthday, and remarked on the high esteem in which he was held. It was decided to forward Mr Campbell a letter of congratulation and wishing him continuous good health.
