FRENCH COMMUNIST DEPUTIES
CABINET INCIDENT CLOSED Received May 27, 8.30 p.m. PARIS, May 26th. So far as any immediate result is concerned, the Cabinet incident is closed, but next week the Senate will take a vote on the home policy, and as the Communist question comes under this heading, M. Poincare will demand a vote. NEW AUTHORITY TO TRY COMMUNISTS. Received May 27, 8.30 p.m. PARIS, May 26. A meetiug of the Council of Ministers decided that proceedings against the Communists be submitted to a judicial authority, also that reform of the High Court be carried out. It is added that in order to spare the Senate the trouble of acting as High Court of Justice for the trial of political crimes, a Supreme Court, consisting of ordinary judges, will be constituted, whose duty it will be to try political offenders. (The French Premier, M. Poincare, tendered to President Milierand the resignations of himself and the Cabinet, as the result of the Senate deciding that it was not competent to try the Communists charged with opposing France’s action in the Ruhr, the Government considering that the decision would prevent the continuance of its policy regarding the Communists. The President, however, prevailed upon M. Poincare to withdraw the resignations).
