RUHR OCCUPATION
IMPORTANT EXTENSION BY FRENCH. PARIS, May 17. The French seizure of the Badische Aniline Works at Ludwigshafen has aroused great interest because the works since 1913 have specialised in the manufacture of synthetic ammonia from ordinary air, under the Haber process, which makes Germany practically independent of foreign supplies of nitrates for fertilisers. The French Government, by virtue of the agreement; arising from article 297 of the Treaty, obtained in 1919 the right to use the Haber process. The Government powder factory at Toulouse is being transformed for the manufacture of nitrate from the air on a large scale. When the works operate France expects to be independent of foreign fertilisers.
