BREWING FIRMS TO AMALGAMATE

A BIG SCHEME. (Per Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, May 18. The Lyttelton Times this morning says: According to rumour current during the last few days, important proposals are under consideration for the ■ amalgamation of the whole of the ; brewery interests in New Zealand. It I is reported that preliminary negotia- ; tions have taken place, but nothing can be decided until the shareholders of the different companies have been consulted, which will be done within the next week or so. Included in the scheme is the issue of debentures and an offer of shares to the public. An important feature of the proposals is that if they materialise there will be no longer “tied” hotels, since all brewery concerns will be merged into one. The capital of the new corporation, if what is proposed is sanctioned by the shareholders, will run into seven figures.
