G. YOUNG’S APPEAL DISMISSED. (Per Press Association.! CHRISTCHURCH, March 29. The Canterbury District Committee dismissed the appeal by Jockey G. Young against his suspension for one month imposed by the Waimate Stewards. NOTES AND COMMENTS. (By “Early Bird.”) Racing at Trentham to-day and on Saturday. Quite a good field will saddle up for the Thompson Handicap, in which. Quest (A. Reed), Anomaly and Sycorax are the pick. The Railway Handicap has not attracted a great number of the good ones, the best of whom appear to be Absurdum (who will be bracketed with Surveyor) and Birkie. Others to run well to-day may be Wamba and Sir Roseberry (Highweight Handicap), King’s Trumpeter and Lucius (Plunket Nursery), Island and Redlogue (Silverstream Handicap), and Warpath and all Cerise (Tinakori Handicap). The Challenge Stakes looks very much like the Gloaming Stakes, but there should be a good race in the St. Leger, between Martial Dawn and Kick Off.

On Saturday it is possible that Gloaming and Amythas may meet in the Gold Cup, two miles, at weight--for-age. If they do, Gloaming ought to beat his opponent, whose training has b r en several times interrupted. The outstanding gallops at Trentham on Tuesday morning were those recorded by Insurrection, Songbird, and Sycorac, who got to the end of seven furlongs in Imin 30sec. Insurrection was given the other pair a break at the start, but he finished on very well, and was only a neck behind Songbird at the finish, with Sycorax going comfortably a couple of lengths away.. The stable mates Quest (on the outside) and Scion did, the same distance in a couple of ticks longer, and the former gave the idea that he could have done a bit better. Amongst the sprinters, Absurdum, with Surveyor, ran five furlongs in Imin. 5 secs., and he seemed to do it well, but Triboulet, who went an extra furlong, and got to the end in Imin. 18sec., did as well from a time point of view. Roseday was not worked, as he has met with an accident, and will not be a starter to-day. H. Telford was the first to commence work. He sent Blackmail Sunny Corner over seven furlongs, which was left behind in Imin. 34 sec., with the former going the better.

Radiant Light and Truthful were associated over seven furlongs, which they ran in Imin. 34 secs.. Both were under a pull at the end. Dainty Step was too good for Roset over four furlongs in 53sec. Kick-Off did a couple of rounds at a strong pace, and a similar task was allotted Gasbag. The two hacks Peep o’ Day and Yellow Hammer went to the halfmile barrier and galloped home together. Trihoulet was too good for Basso over six furlongs. The former got to the end in Imin. 18sec. —a good gallop. Capping Day and his stable companion Canyon finished together at the end of six furlongs which took Imin. 18sec.

Landbird and the two-year-old Rapine were given a gallop on the straight half-mile. Martial Dawn beat Island comfortably at the end of six furlongs in Imin. 19sefe. The first-named is looking very well, and should race prominently at the meeting. Halifax and Esperance were to have galloped seven furlongs, but the latter tailed off early, and would not try. Halifax got to the end of his task in Imin. 32sec. Princess Pat on the outside was going better than Printemps and Liqueur at the finish of a bout over six furlongs. The time was Imin. 18 2-ssec. The first-named is looking better than at any time this season, and if « good light-weight can be obtained for her she will keep the opposition busy right to the judge’s box in the big mile to-day. En Route was ahead of Moutoa’s Gift at the end of a half-mile on the course proper. Grotesque was given strong work, and his rider had great difficulty in preventing him from galloping.

Rational, who looks much more forward than was expected, was given a round at a strong pace. Coalition z was going better at the end of seven furlongs than Oak Rose. Wamba beat Rlmutaka over a strongly-run mile. Backsheesh was making a noise at close of a six furlongs, which he went alone.

The Emperor, Ares, and Vague were in that order at the end of half a mile on the straight. Ping Rose, Lord Usk, Silver Peak, and several others were given useful work.

MANAWATU ACCEPTANCES. Owners and trainers are reminded that acceptances for the first day (next Thursday) of the Manawatu Autumn meeting, close on Friday, at 9 p.iu.
