WANGANUI EDUCATION BOARD.

A meeting of the Wanganui Education Board was held last evening. Present: Messrs W. A. Collins (chairman), Fraser, Bruce, Birnie, Pilkington, Mclntyre, Hemingway, E. V. Laws. «. TIRIRAUKAWA. A deputation from Tiriraukawa (20 miles from Taihape) waited upon the Board and urged the re-opening of the Tiriraukawa School. Three families with eight children in all were affected, and if the school were closed the children would have to go to Whaka Road School, six miles away for one family. They were prepared to subsidise the teacher's salary if necessary. The senior inspector said when the proposal to shift the Tiriraukawa school was first made there were no children of school age in the district. Mr Pilkington said that the Board could not decently remove the school seeing that the settlers had built half of it One of the members said that farmers were having to go back to the disifirict to take their tarms over again.

It was decided to apply to the Department to re-open the Tiriraukawa school. TURAKINA SCHOOL. The Turakina Committee urged the erection of a new school, stating that the building was 40 years ago condemned by the Health Department. The chairman said that there was no doubt about the urgency of the case. The school had been first on the Board’s list of urgent new w-orks but the Education Department had now’ placed Longburn, Turakina and Sanson new schools in that order. The Turakina School was on the department’s estimates and ail they could do was to hope that the work would be speedily gone on with. UPOKONGARO. The senior inspector was instructed to report on the need of more accommodation at the Upokongaro School. KAUARAPAOA. The Education Department w’rote approving of the establishment of a household School. MARTON. ft was decided to return the Marton Committee £2OO which was raised by Marton residents two years ago for a new’ class room. The money was held pending a grant by the Department which has not materialised. MISCELLANEOUS. It was decided on the invitation of the Arainoho School Committee to visit the Aramoho school grounds on the day of the next board meeting. RESIGNATIONS. The following resignations were received: —A. McPhee, sole teacher, Rongoiti; Mrs HI. Binns, sole teacher, Pukeroa; P. Mclntyre, assistant. Wanganui Central Infants; W. Adams, head teacher, Mangaweka, (retiring on superannuation); G. E. Nicholls, sole teacher, Tauangatutu.
