PERSONAL.
Brigadier-General Hart stated last week thSt, owing to pressure on his time, he had no intention of contesting the Wairarapa seat, even if he should receive the petition which, it is stated, the soldier settlers are sending him. He has just recovered from the strain of the war, and would not venture upon a strenuous election compaign. Mr. R. Miller, chief clerk at Hastings, has been appointed stationmaster at Stratford in succession to Mr Veale, who is retiring on superannuation. Mr. John Christopher Rolieston, a son of the late Hon. W. Rolieston, will be the Reform candidate for the Waitomo seat, at present held by Mr. W. Jennings. It is understood that some, of Mr. C. Bellringer’s friends in New Plymouth are desirous that he should come forward as a candidate for the Taranaki seat al the general election. Mr S. Andrew, of Kaikoura, is understood to have decided to contest the Hurunui seat at the general election. as a Government supporter. Mr Andrew is chairman of the Kaikoura County Council, and also the representative of the Kaikoura-Cheviot district on the North Canterbury Hospital Board.
