RUMANIA CHALLENGES FOR DAVIS CUP. Received March 14, 9.30 p.m. NEW YORK, March 13. Rumania has challenged for the Davis Cup. N. Z. REPRESENTATIVES IN AUSTRALIA. WELLINGTON, March 14. The Lawn Tennis team to represent New Zealand at the New South Wales Championships in Sydney on April 28th, and subsequent dates has been selected. The team is to consist of four ladies and six men, but in case certain players are unable to make the trip the selectors have chosen two additional ladies an done extra man. The players selected are:—Ladies. —Misses Nancy Curtis (Wellington), Majorie McFarlane (Auckland), M. Payton (Auckland), Zeta Wellwood (Hawke’s Bay); Mesdarnes C. J. Marshall (Auckland), N. P. Green (Hawke’s Bay). Men.—Dr. J. T. Lawrenson (Waikato), Messrs G. Ollivier (Canterbury), j. C. Peacock ( Wellington), A. W. Sims (Waikato), E. L. Barlett (Auckland), R. N. K. Swanston (Wellington), Emergency.— P. G. Greenwood (Canterbury). INTER-CLUB COMPETIONS. The above competitions- were completed on Saturday last, and the Wanganui Club is to be congratulated on winning both the Lampe Cup and the Powdrell Cup. In the Lampe Cup Matches the Wanganui Club won three matches and drew one; and in the Powdrell Cup the Wanganui Club won all matches played.

RESIDENTIAL CHAMPIONSHIPS. The following is the draw for the residential championships. In the ladies’ competition all matches up to the semi-finals must be played by Thursday afternoon, so that those drawn to play in the first round, who have not played off before Thursday, are expected to be at Victoria Park at 1.30 p.m. The ladies first round matches are Mrs Pearce v. Mrs Emia, Mrs Bogle v. Mrs Bland, Miss Shaw v. Mrs Marumaru, Mrs Seaward v. Miss Darley, Miss Takarangi v. Mrs Lane. Second round, commencing at 2.45: Miss Calver v. Miss Hatrick, and the winner of Miss TakarangiMrs Lane match to play Miss Newcombe. Each match to be the best of three sets, third set advantage. MEN’S RESIDENTIAL CHAMPIONSHIP. First Round: Day v. Tauri; Baird v. Tukere; Jackson v. E. McDonald; I. Wells v. Lane. Second Round : Pownall v. Woollams; Lampe v. Stevens; Russ v. Anderson; Mete King! v. Box; Marshall v. Howie; Powdrell v. Walker. Any first round matches not played before Saturday must be commenced at Victoria Park at 1.30 on Saturday next. All other players must be ready to play at 2 p.m. As there are twenty players in this competition it is hoped that a fair proportion of the first round games will be played before Saturday, so that the semi-finals will be reached this week.
