NAPIER WOOL SALE. (Per Press Association.) NAPIER, March 14. Although the wool offered at the fourth sale of the season, which was held to-day. had not the lustre of that presented at the previous sale, competition was nevertheless keen. The bench of buyers was representative of most sections of the trade, but as the better class of wool did not figure on the catalogues, the local woollen mills were not represented, and very little super wool was offered, but the demand for inferior grades was more marked than usual. A particularly striking feature of the sale was the demand for prices, bellies and scouring sorts, prices for which were well maintained. C ontinental and Bradford buyers were prominent in the procuring of lower grades. The quantity of lambs’ wool offering was very limited, and the quality did not offer much inducement to buyers The greater portion of lambs’ wool sold was for Canada. Continental buyers holding back. The bulk of 11.623 bales offered wan back-country wool and seedy and log stained, consequently low quality and heavy, and on the whole it appeared that prices were down slightly. About 20 per cent, of the total offering passed. American competition was completely lacking. Ixits that would have been suitable for them wore ignored. It is estimated that lambs’ wool fell fully a penny, due chiefly to the fact that French buyers had completed their orders previously. The official range of prices was:— Fine Lalfbred super l.’kl to 14d. average lid to 12jd, medium balfbred. average IOJd to 11 Id. inferior to 9ld. fine crossbred super BJd to 9d. average Cxi to 7sd, inferior 4|d to «ssd. medium crossbred super 9d, average 6d to 7d, inferior 4 id to 5Jd. coarse crossbred super (xl to 6id. average 5d to s|d, inferior 3jd to 4Jd. low crossbred super 5d to 6d. average 4d to IJd. inferior 3}d to Id: hoggets, fine* 8d to 9d. medium C)’d to 7 .Id, coarse 4d to s|d, low 4|d to 4Jd: lambs, fine 6Jd to BJd. medium ’»Jd to 61d, seedy and inferior 3*Jd to 4|d.
