By the way, they are going to accompany the Dominion bowlers to Great Britain. From Karangahake has come E. Jury’s rink—B. Hilton, A. Bell, O. Gallagher, and E. Jury (sk.) —which was successful in the Domiinon championship two years ago and won the Auckland centre championship quite recently. J. Laughton (Newtown), who skipped the champion team in 1916, is again controlling a team from tiie same club. J. Porteous (Wellington Club), who skipped the champion team in 1914, and J. A. Nash, M.P. (Palmerston North), who earned similar distinction a year [ later, are also in sharge of teams. A prominent competitor is Professor Maxwell Walker (Ponsonby Club, Auckland). lie has knocked at the door of success on several occasions, but without gaining ingress. This year he hopes to go one better. Ernie Harraway (Dunedin), the present singles chami pion, has skipped several rinks to the final stages in past competitions. He also won the pairs championship in 1914 and 1918, and skipped the runners up jn the rinks championship last year. J. Turnbull and M. Spiller (sk.) (Syden* ham), winners of the pairs tournev in 1920, are also here to try and retain the title. Blackwood, who was lea’ for Smelhe (Green Island) in 1915. when they won the pairs, is there skipping a rink from Grey mouth. N.Z. VISIT TO ENGLAND. ARRANGEMENTS FOR THE TRIP. (Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, Jan. 13. A formal meeting of bowlers who had signified their intention of accepting the invitation of the British Bowling’ Association to pay a visit to Great Britain I was held to-night. Mr Barnett (Christchurch) was appointed president of the team, instead of manager; Mr A. E. Renouf, of Napier, was appointed secretary and Mr G. S. Gordon (Wanganui) treasurer. Other officers, such as manager and captain. Will be appointed by members of the party when they assemble in Wellington next month. The team would in all probability assemble in Wellington in the third week in February and leave here in time to connect with the P. and O. steamer N’arkunda. leaving Sydney on March Ist. The president of the party intimated that the agents of the P. and O. in New Zealand would guarantee connection. Mr Bush, president of tiie Dominion Bowling Association, said arrangements had been made for adequate reception of the bowlers, not only in Australian ports of call but at Colombo, Bombay. • Naples and Marseilles. They would be under the aegis of the British Bowling Association. On Saturday a senior shield game will be played on the St. John’s green against the Westbourne Club.
