The Austrian Government has exhausted its funds, and has determined to resign on the lath and hand over power to the Reparation Commission in the hope that the Allies will thus be forced to provide Austria with essential financial support. DEALING WITH PROFITEERS. DRASTIC MEASURES. (Reuter.) Received Jan. 12, 10.15 p.m. VIENNA, Jan. 11. Inquiry into the cost of living has opened. The Chancellor stated that a Bill is being introduced into the National Council providing ten years’ imprisonment and a fine of five million crowns for profiteering. He declared that great masses of the people^were working their hardest, but were unable to earn sufficient to procure the barest necessities. The only remedy was to stabilise exchange. Production would mean ample foreign credits. Labour delegates demanded corporal, even capital, punishment of profiteers.
