AUCKLAND’S GAS SHORTAGE.

(Per Press Association.)

AUCKLAND, Jan. 10. Coal for relief of the gas shortage in Auckland should arrive in the city shortly. The steamship Kamo, with 1300 tom aboard for the Gas Company, is expected to leave Westport to-night for this port, and should arrive here on Thursday. Just as soon as cargo is landed the Gas Company expects to be in a position to give an improved service to gas consumers. Delay in ths departure of the Kamo has been due to reduced output at the mines. The gas pressure in suburban areas was lowered during Saturday and Sunday, except for the dinner hour period in the evening, to provide lighting for churches. However, a full supply was given up ot 8 p.m. last night, bu: to-day, and until the Company gets coal it requires, the supply will be reduced to that of Saturday.
