DEPUTATIONS AT NEW PLYMOUTH. (Per Press NEW PLYMOUTH, Jan. 9. The Minister of Public Works was in New Plymouth on Saturday and left for Mokau to-day on route to Te Kuiti and Auckland. He received deputations and was taken round the town and to the mountain. The Chamber of Commerce made a strong plea for resumption of work at the Taranaki end of the Stratford Main Trunk railway, but the Minister definitely stood to his previous decision to concentrate on the most important train lines, which in his view, arc the northern lines. He denied Auckland was favtffred. instancing the discontinuance of railway® in his own and Marsden electorates.
