The Department of Agriculture has received the following cablegram, dated October 30, from the High Commission for Nexv Zealand, London: — “Meat. —English, no change in price. New Zealand mutton and lamb, good demand for all descriptions at maximum prices;- -Ewes, 8d; cut wethers, 8d; uncut wethers, 9d; lamb. 1/1 per lb. NewZealand beef: Small supply of ox has been sold for 10‘/jd and 7d; cow, 9d and sUjd p e r ID.; hinds and fores respectively. Butter.--English and Irish, conditions are unchanged. “Cheese. —Market is quiet for all descriptions; prices maintained with difficulty. English, up to £9 6/ per cwt. (1/8 per lb.); Canadian, white, £7 14/' to £8 per * wt. (1 4 to 1/5 per lb.); quotations c.i.f., £7 16/ to £7 19/ per cwt.; to 1/5 per lb.) “Hemp.—Market is very quiet, largely due to coal strike. Manila, small business at lower prices. “J" grade JulySeptember shipment sold at £66 per ton; November-January shipment. £65 per ton. Sellers’ present quotations are;— Spot, £67 per ton; July-September and August-October shipments, £65 10/ per ton; September-November and OctoberDecember shipments. £65 per ton. New Zealand neglected. Quotations are nominal. owing to the absence of business; spot, bighpoints, £56. and fair £54 10/ per tor; October-December shipment, £55 and £53 per ton respectix’ely. “Wool. —Next series of Government I/ondon auction sales will commence on November 8 if the miners will accept settlement offered. Ballot will be cast on November 2.’’ 3TOCX SALES. Dalgety and Coy., Ltd., Palmerston North, report:— We had a yarding of some 900 odd cattle at our Feilding cattle fair on Friday. 29th ult. There was a very large attendance and competition was keen throughout the day and prices realised highly satisfactory to vendors.
