TAIHAPE NOTES.

(From Our Own Correspondent.) TAIHAPE, November 3. At a meeting of civil servants, held in the Railway Social Hall, it was decided to form a Civil Service Cricket Club, and to enter a team in the competition. The following office-bearers were elected:—Patron, Mr R. W. Smith, M.P.; presidents, Messrs H. It. Bush and A. McNickle; vice-presidents, Messrs P. Baird, AV. Venn, A. Thompson, T. Burke, J. Dyer. T. The membership fee was fixed at £l/1/-, with 2/6 fee for honorary’ members. The Taihape Golf Club will hold their annual social and presentation of prizes on November 10th, and the proceeds will be devoted to the Hospital funds. This arrangement is an improvement on that of former years, when the presentation of prizes was made at the beginning ot the following year. The adjourned meeting of the Taihape Chamber of Commerce was held on Monday evening, when the following were present:—Messrs J. R. Cunninghame (chairman), F. Marlow, H. D. Bond, A. R. Fannin, A. Gifford, R. A. Davies, E McLaughlan, J D. Oldham. A. R. Munro. G. A. Lawson, J. P. Aldridge, C, Masters (secretary). A letter from the Rangitikei County and Waimarino County Councils, outlining improvements proposed in the Main North Road, was received.—The Minister of Railways wrote that consideration of the present daylight expresses would be given at the proper time.—The Taihape Borough Council replied that the Chamber’s recommendation that public conveniences be provided for in the next loan schedule was being considered.—A letter was received from the Minister of Customs re the recommendation that a Customs official be appointed at Taihape Post Office. Specific cases of delay in customed goods are to be given to the Customs Department.—The Minister of Public Health wrote stating that the time was not opportune for the establishment of a base hospital at Taihape. Messrs Cunninghame. Munro, and Fannin were appointed a sub-committee to consider the proposed boundaries of the hospital district., and it was resolved that representatives of the various local bodies concerned be asiked to meet the committee.—lt was resolved to write to the Public Works Department, pointing out. the necessity fo Tokaanu Road, the highway to the National Park, being kept in good repair.—■ Messrs Cunninghame, Davies, Oldham, and Aldridge were appointed a committee to represent the Chamber in a deputation to the Minister of Public Health when he visits Taihape during the Hospital Carnival week.—A letter from the AVellington Co-operative Waterside Labour Employment Association re limiting the weight of sacks of potatoes to 206 lbs was received. —It was decided to further represent the matter of the extension of the ailway overhead bridge.—lt was decided to forward a remit to the conference urging that proper attention should be given to the route leading to the National Park.—Mr J. R. Cunninghame was appointed delegate to the annual conference. Mr Cunninghame brought up the matter of securing representation on the Taihape Chamber of Commerce from Mangaweka, Ohingaiti, and other adjoining districts, and it was decided to endeavour to have representatives appointed.—lt. was decided to write to the Taihape Borough Council, the Rangitikei County Council, and the Mangaweka Town Board, urging improvement in the state of the Main South Road.—lt was decided to urge the Taihape Borough Council to obtain permission from the Railway Department to erect a light on the overhead bridge. The PostmasterGeneral was urged to institute a postal parcel delivery in Taihape.
