TRAIN AND CAR COLLIDE.
DEPLORABLE FATALITY AT WAVERLEY. y LOCA-I, MANAGER VACUUM O1l” COMPANY KILLED. / A crossing near Waverley was the scene of another deplorable fatality yesterday, the victim being Mr Jas Syme, Wanganui manager and traveller for the Vacuum Oil Company. From tho information available last evening, it appears that Mr Syme was crossing the line in his car when the New Plymouth express crashed into him. The wrecked car was carried some little distance before the train could be pulled up. and when eventually it was possible to get to Mr Syme it was found that he was dead. The body was removed to Waverley, where an inquest will be held this afternoon, after which the body will be brought into Wanganui for interment on Monday afternoon. The deceased gentleman. who was only 39 years of age. came to Wanganui from Dunedin a little over twelve months ago, and resided at Gonville. He leaves a widow and three children, who will have the sincere sympathy of the community in their terribly sudden and tragic bereavement.
