FUTURE OF GREECE.
REPUBLIC OK MONARCHY? ALEXANDER CANNOT TAKE HIS WIFE TO GREECE. REFUSES TO GO WITHOUT HER. Received June 13, 5.5 p.m. LONDON, June 11. The “Daily Express’ ” Paris correspondent states that Alexander of Greece announces his willingness to sacrifice the throne unless he is allowed to take his morgautic wife back to Athens. Venizelos is leaving Paris to discuss the possibility of establishing a republic in Greece. It seems impossible for Alexander to take his wife back to Athens, as a secret conclave of army officers threatened most energetic steps unless she left the palace. This was the cause of her coming to Paris with her sister. There have been many pro-Constantine demonstrations in Greece, which Is the real cause of Venizelos recently proclaiming martial law. In view of Alexander’s announcement, a republic seems the only alternative. LOVE BEFORE A THRONE. Received June 13, 5.5 p.m. PARIS, June 12. Venizelos has arrived. It is understood that he is to ask Alexander’s consent to a republic. Alexander is unlikely to have personal objection. He prefers the life of a private citizen with a beautiful girl wife to the care of a crown. Alexander’s holiday is due to end on Sunday. He is expected to give his decision before then.
