UNIVERSITY SENATE.

The University Senate has resolved that a course in applied physics for the advance grade B.C. degree, proposed at the Board of Studies and adopted by the Senate, be reconsidered at the April meeting. The committee presented a report on the diploma of education, which was adopted. The diploma is to be (a) open tp students of the. University who have graduated in art or science, or who have kept terms in not less than four subjects in these courses at an affiliated college; (b) have pursued a course of training approved by the University; and (c) have complied with the conditions which are defined by the Statute; and is to come into operation this year. 'lt was resolved that of the candidates for preliminary science examination for certificate of proficiency in dental surgery five be recorded as having passed the whole examination, and one as having passed in two subjects; that of the candidates for accountants’ preliminary exam 30 be recorded as having passed the whole examination, and 33 as having passed in sections. Mr J. A. Hanan said that in order to secure a further study of science subjects in the State secondary schools by the annual award of four special Government scholarships, he would move, “That the Minister of Education be respectfully asked to make provision for such scholarships this year,” The motion was carried. The proposed scholarships were to be awarded on examination by means of entrance scholarships, or entrance scholarships and matriculation papers in combination, candidates being obliged to take science papers, in scholarship examination, and to qualify for matriculation, taking the whole examination into account.
