It is reported that an international conference, composed of the representatives of the Powers who have ratified the Treaty, will replace the Peace Conference. It is believed that Britain is opposed to the United States' suggestion . that an Ambassador Commission should be formed.
In reference to the Peace Treaty, President Wilson decided to allow the stipulation to remain as at present. PARIS, December 7.
Jugo-Slavia has signed the Bulgarian Treaty and the financial clauses of the Austrian Treaty. PERTH, December 8.
The Legislative Council passed a Bill increasing the members' salaries.
BRISBANE, December 7
The watersiders at Townsville decided to adopt the go-slow policy until granted an increase of a penny per hour on special cargoes. MELBOURNE, December 7.
J. K. McDougall, an ex-Member of the Labour Party in the House of Representatives, who admitted writing offensive verses about soldiers, was seized by a party of returned men at)his home, near Ararat, who stripped, tarred, and feathered him, and released him on the crowded streets of Ararat.
In the Assembly, Mr. Oman estimated the present wheat harvest to yield eleven million bushels in excess of requirements.
The gasmen's strike is seriously interfering with domestic life and badly handicapping many commercial enterprises by rendering idle the employees. The engine-drivers and firemen of the gas compaxiies have now joined the strike.
