INFLUENZA.
POSITION IN AUSTRALIA,
Received 11.46 p.m.. May 11. SYDNEY,, May 11. For the resumption of racing and the opening of the football season yestei*day there were good attendances, despite the prevalenc of the influenza. Th position in the metropolitan ancf country districts, both of New South Wales and Victoria, is steadily improving. There is reason to believe that the top of the wave has passed, and that infectivity and virulence are declining. A South Australian report shows that the episode is gaining ground, and that; there is an increasing number of deaths, though the death-rate h not large.
Queensland reports indicate that since the first outbreak it has been steadily spreading. There are many new cases in Brisbane."
