CHRYSANTHEMUM SHOW.

A SUCCESSFUL MOVEMENT.

The chrysanthemum competition held under the auspices of the Wanganui Horticultural Society took place yesterday and was a great success, the iemarkab;y line displays in the various windows attracting great interest. The entries were grouped according to the districts from which .they came, the allocation of the district exhibits to the various windows being as follows: T. E. Thomas and Co., Alarton exhibits; Purser's, Ltd., Bawera exhibits; Anirew Iloss, Hutt exhibits; George j-nd Kersley } Wanganui exhibits; McCruer and Co , Turakinaand Feikling exhibits.

I The window displays were judged by i Mrs Lovell, of Hawera, and she awardied the points as under, the maximum I being: Quality 30, colouring 30, effect |20 and detail 20 :— Purser's (..Hawera). —Quality 30, coi!<feurins 20, effect 18, and detail 18; toi tal 91 • Ist.

George and Kersley (Wanganui).— Quality 20, colouring 25, effect 20, detail 20, total 85.

Thomas and Co. (Marto'n). —Quality 25, colouring 15, effect 10, and detail 5; total 55. McGruer s (Turakina and Feildias). —Quality 10. colouring 5, effect 15, detail 10; total 40. A silver cup was given as the first priz-e for the best collection of twelve specimen biooms; and this was awarded to Mr C. Goodson, of Hawera. Mr. Gibson, of Marton, took second hitjm (Mrs T. Easton Jefcoate's special, a sil ver vase). Mr Lance, Sehvyn Street, took the third (Mr W. Parnell's specW 10s. 6d.)

We understand that the frequentlyexpressed hope that the display would be made an annual one is already assured, as growers up and down the coiisi are very anxious that a separate Socicti, to bo callod the Wanganui Chrys.ntv tlieimim Society, should he formed, ond p, Large number have already signified their intention of joining such" a society, which will include growers from Marton, Feilding, The Hutt, Turakinn, and Hawera, as yv&II as Wanganui. The objects bf .the society will be to hold annual shows and encourage the cultivation of "mums" in every possible way. In this connection, Mr C. Goodson, of Hawera. has kindly offered to supply plants for display free of charge to members for the purposes of the competitions, which will be open to trie whole of the North Island.

In connection with yesterday's cMsplay. the society desire to thank Mrs. Lovell for judging the window decorations, and also Mrs. Easton Jefcoute and Mr W. Parnell for judging the cut blooms.
