(From Our Own Correcpondent.) TAIHa^'E, April 22.

Very considerable interest is being exhibited ,in the municipal elections, and active canvassing and organisation is being carried out. The nominations close at noon to-day.

Messrs A. J. Jobiln and Geo. Wrightson, both members of the late council, are candidates for the Mayoralty. The contest between these two is expected to l>e very keen.

The nominations for councillors number fourteen, from whom seven are to be selected. The Labur^ Party is running a ticket, while wliat has been facetiously termed the "old gang" is supposed to be ruiinn.j; a ticket to secure a majority. The nominations are as follows: —H. J. J. R. Cunningham, J. T. Davey, R. A. Davies, J. W. Eteveneau.v, V*. H. Fookes, Ernest Loader, E. K. Olsen. S. F. Reid.. A. M. Ryan, S. S. Timbs. M. G. Trotter, J. G. Turnbull, F. Ward. There is to baa contest for the seat for the Wanganui Hospital and Charitable Aid Board for this district, Messrs A J. Joblin and J. P. Aldridge. The former is the present sitting member, while the latter is one of our oldest and most respected residents.
