The Bishop of Oxford has resigned, —London cable. Wo understand that Mr Jas. Aitken will be a candidate for a seat on yhe Borough Council at the forthcoming election. _ Mr H. P..West, railway traffic man? ager Invercargill, has been transferred bo Wanganui. . _ Lieut. R. O. Montgomeries, R.A.F. (Wanganui), has returned to England from Egypt and Palestine. , S S M. C. B. Burdekin, who is on the l>A.A.G.'s staff at Headquarters m London, has been promoted second^heut6Lieut. A. E. Cheal, R.A.F. (Wanganui) has been transferred to the Genera] List of the*, War Offioe with the rank of captain. ' Mr. A'. C. Turnbull, Inspector of the Lands and Survey Department, has been appointed secretary to the Public Service Commission. Mr. Turnbull has been at the Front for about three years and has not yet returned. ••■ The Minister of Defence, when asked if an appointment has been made to the position of DirectorGeneral of Medical Services which is being vacated by Surgeon-General Henderson, replied that immediately following the death of Colonel Begg, who had been appointed to the position, Colonel *McGavin had been cabled for to come out to take control. In the meantime, this was not permanent. The Minister could not say what would be done in regard to filling the 'position permanently.
