MELBOURNE, January 23. The superintendent of the Melbourne Hospital states that cases of influenza! pneumonia were admitted to the institution as early as the end of November. During the past three days several similar, though more serious, cases were admitted. There are now twenty-seven in the hospital, which are undoubtedly influenpneumonia, apparently of the epidemic character. One of the patients had been engaged in unloading a boat from New Zealand.
The of the Board of "Health was not prepared to admit that it was Spanish influenza, or of the overseas type. So far only the pneumonia, and not the influenza germs, had been discovered.
