GOVERNMENT REPUDIATION.
WHEAT GROWERS INDIGNANT
(Per Press Association. ) CHRISTCHURCH, January 22
At a meeting of the North Canterbury Farmers' Union to-day, considerable indignation was expressed at the action of the Government breaiking its promise to pay 6/4 per bushel for this season's wheat, and to allow a free market. It was pointed out that many farmers had grown wheat who would not otherwise have idone so, owing to the promise of a. free market. The opinion was also expressed that the promise as to next season's crop was like pie-crust —"made only to be broken." Mr. G. W. Lill suggested that all branches should be communicated with to see if they would disregard the Government's prices—in fact, to defy and declare war on the Government. Mr. Sheat: "A bit of Bolshevism, — eh?" It was eventually decided that the Government be requested to observe its agreement with the farmers.
