The "World's" Paris correspondent interviewed Mr. J. Hughes, who said, "The Japanese were a great people, but our ideals and theirs differ fundamentally. We don't wish for Japanese expansion in our direction. We've a very small population compared to Japan. NeitTier are our interests and aspirations identical with theirs. Each of us. in our different spheres, can safeguard our future, while maintaining relations in perfect harmony with one another."
