ROLL OF HONOUR.
Private A. Stuart, whose name pppcared m the list of men who died 01 wounds, on Saturday last, was the li rn fche£ °f Mr" Jam^s stuart, of Fordelj. Private Stuart came only recently from Scotland with his brother, and *'** employed by the late Mr W. K. Me William at Netherdale duririg the early period of the war, relinquishing his position wlien the final tidings ci Irooper McWilHam's death at Gallipoli became authenticated. After several unsuccessful'efforts to get away, Pte. Stuart finally left with the 21st Reinforcements for the Western front. The news of his death came as a great shock to his many friends at Fordell. A young fellow of sterling character, ever faithful to a trust, "Alf." Stuart has "gone West." His name has been to the long list of Scotland's sons who have so nobly played their part in this great conflict for liberty. Another brother was wounded in the same offensive. Mr. James Stuart will have the sincere sympathy of residents in the Fordell and Wangamu districts. News has been received in Feiidiug that Private Fa.irfie.ld ("Pepper") Thompson, third son of Mr and Mrs. Fairfield Thompson, has died of wounds. Private Thompson was a member of the staff of the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co., Ltd.. at Feilding and Hawera, "before enlisting with the 22nd Reinforcements. He'was a married man and Itares a youni- wid^w^ and two children to mourn their loss. Another son of Mr and Mrs Thompson (William) is also on active service, and was wounded on Oct. 4th.
