SHOCKING FATALITY.
HOKITIKA, October 26. A shocking fatality occurred at the railway station shortly after the arrival of the evening train last night. During shunting operations Lawrence Sullivan, a retired settler from South Westland, over 70 years of age, was found to have been run over. The body was terribly mutilated. He was seen on the railway platform shortly before, and it is inferred that he was taking a short cut across the railway line to his residence near by.
The deceased, who leaves a widow and grown-up family, was a well-known grazier of Cook's River, and had one son serving with the forces.
