REV. TOWARD ELLIOT'S CHARGES.

AUGKLAND, August 20. William Richardson, printer, stated that in March or April he was waited on by Superintendent Kiely and two policemen. Superintendent Kiely asked if he had published a leaflet entitled "Rome's Hideous Guilt in the European Garnage." Witness replied that it bore his imprint. The Superintendent asked how many Copies had been published, and witness replied 15,000. The Superintendent seemed surprised, though witness had since discovered that the number published totalled 20,000. He asked if witness int-ended to continue publishing these pamphlets, to -which witness replied that he was, and that it had been reprinted from a magazine. The Superintendent asked if he intended to print more, and witness replied that he did.

A few moi'e witnesses gave evidence as to not having received envelopes addressed to them, which closed Mr Elliott's case, and the inquiry was adjourned till Tuesday. At the postal inquiry Harry Seabrook produced correspondence with postal officers in regard to the return of a letter addressed to "Menace," an American publication, which letter was marked "Prohibited." He also produced a letter from the Postmaster-General, expressing regret that the letter had been returned* especially as there was no authority for that act, and assured Mr Seabrook that the person who marked the letter as prohibited was an officer of whom the Department had no doubt that the letter had been stopped through misunderstanding. The Postmaster-General was not aware of any drganisatiton to stop the issue of "Menace," and assured Mr Seabrooh that neither of the two officers concerned in the stopping of the letter in question was a Roman Catholic.

Mr Gray, asked witness would lie accept the statement that neither of the officers concerned was a Roman Catholic.

After some hesitation witness replied, "Yes, I do. But I want to know who is at the back of those officers,"
