LENS IN JEOPARDY
LONDON, Aug. 16. Le Matin" states that the impetuous assault of the British was th c most violent witnessed for ten months past. Tne merciless violence of the fight, and its swiftness, explain the small number captured Th e few prisoners, who were completely exhausted and depressed, belonged to old classes, and many were invalided early, in the war. The "Petit Journal" states that if the British attacks north of Lens are continued, the fall of Lens is imminent.
